Kenny
Brewer Owner/Driver
Kenny’s pulling career began in 1985 when he bought
his first mini modified tractor called "Aggravation". This tractor
ran a small block Chevy engine and served to introduced Kenny to a sport
that proved to be a real challenge. He drove "Aggravation" for
three years while learning the in's and out's of tractor pulling. At the
same time Kenny developed a passion that would never leave.
In
1988 he sold "Aggravation", not realizing how much he would miss
the competition of tractor pulling. Kenny purchased a 460 International
Modified farm stock tractor, entering a new class of competition on the
circuit. Kenny and the International finished first in points with the East
Tennessee Tractor Pullers Association during the 1988 season.
The massive size and weight of the International made it difficult to haul
to and from events so Kenny elected to sell the International in 1989. Soon
Kenny was drawn back
to the excitement of the sport and his first love, mini modifieds.
During the winter of 1989 Kenny built a second mini-rod, Aggravation II.
Kenny campaigned this tractor for six years through the 1996 season, competing
only on a local level with various clubs and organizations. This mini sported
two different paint schemes when sponsors were obtained.
The first sponsor was Country Boy Seed for the first three years and the
second was a sponsorship by Parts Plus. Aggravation II was sold with plans
already in the works for a new mini-rod.
In 1997 Kenny built Daffy Dodge, a big block Dodge,
468 Cubic inch, fuel injected with alcohol. It ran a Dana 60 rear end
with a Dana 70 carrier for strength. Moslier axles were added along with
individual brakes by Wildwood. Daffy Dodge had a SCS transmission with
a Crowler Glide clutch, and an aluminum frame for weight reduction. Daffy
Dodge finished second in points at the John Battle Young Farmers TractorPulling
Association consecutively from 1996 to 1999. With the American Tractor
Pullers Assoc. Daffy Dodge finished in first place in Severville, Tennessee
and in the top ten at all other ATPA events he attended during the 2000
season
In 1997 local merchants approached Kenny to participate in a program called
"Race Against Drugs". The program was a collaborative effort
by local merchants, American Motorsports and the National Child Safety
Council to educate children to just say no to drugs. Daffy Dodge was on
display at Wal-Mart and Kmart to bring attention to the cause and the
mini-modified tractor traveled to local schools for Drug Education Programs
where the children were able to sit in the driver’s seat and take pictures.
Kenny was honored to participate in such a worthy program.
Daffy
Dodge has gone through a couple renovations over the years and has evolved
into "Barbwire-N-Roses" driven in partnership by Kenny’s son,
Chad and Mike’s daughter Stefanie.
Winter 2000-2001 Kenny was looking to buy/build a competitive tractor
that could compete on a regional and/or national level. After much searching
a tractor was found in Pennsylvania for sale that suited our desires.
During the 2000 season, this tractor was the points champion in both sates
of Ohio and Pennsylvania. We traveled to Pennsylvania to look at the possibility
of acquiring this tractor. Needless to say, the tractor was purchased
that weekend and was brought home with us to Virginia. Once again, Kenny
experienced a tremendous learning curve over the next two years when trying
to adjust to driving this tractor. This tractor is state-of-the-art with
a 557 cubic inch Rodeck engine in excess of 1,000 horse power. The pulling
season of 2003 has been our most successful season ever with our first
win coming in Harrells,North Carolina on June 20th within a class of nationally
ranked tractors. The tractor continued to run strong and once again finished
in first place at Goldsboro, North Carolina, on Friday, August 1st. Kenny
was able to back that win up with another first place finish on Saturday,
August 2nd once again in a class of nationally ranked tractors. Overall
2003 was a great season for Kenny Brewer and Twist-N-Shout proving to
be successful with a fifth place finish in the overall 2003 season points
with the United Pullers of the Carolinas organization. Watch for Twist-N-Shout
to be the tractor to break all records in 2004.
Kenny's married to Charlene. She's isn't able to go to every pull but
she travels with the team when she can. She has always been very supportive
of Kenny and Chad's involvement with tractor pulling. She has encouraged
them often and without her, none of this would have been possible.
